So Long, Good Friend

After nearly five years, I have finally set aside my old flip cell phone for an upgraded smart phone. Ok, ok, for those of you who know me well will say that I could have had this a looong time ago. After all, Michael promised me one for Christmas... Christmas 2007!

I never took him up on his gift. In early 2008 I was told I was going to be laid off, and spending a lot of money on myself is something I have trouble doing, especially with unemployment looming. So I held off. Then, I thought, I will reward myself with a new phone once I get a new job. I was soon hired back on to my old job, and well, my good ol' Sanyo still got the job done. Eighteen months later I was let go again and I was 7 months pregnant, so surely it wasn't the time to be shelling out unnecessary dough. All this time, mind you, it was ME setting these restrictions. Michael was ready to go phone shopping at a moment's notice. Yet, I waited. When I get my new fancy job I will get a new fancy phone to match.

Well, you got me. There's no new fancy job and paycheck. There's just my titles of Mommy and Freelance Designer (two new projects on my desk -- whoo-hoo!). But, now I am ready for that new fancy job. I mean, I have the phone so I sure look the part of a corporate girl, right? Hire me, America!

However, with the new phone, I am oddly sad to see my old one go away. It has been through A LOT! It helped me close on our condo, make wedding plans, and announce Adam's arrival from the hospital room. It once swam in the pool in my pocket for a good two minutes before I realized it. Dried out, it was back to working order. (Show me a smart phone that can do that!) It seemed fitting that when I picked out my new phone, I would pick the red version in commemoration.

So, to my red Sanyo, so long. You have been steadfast and dependable in service to me, and for that I thank you.

PS. Can I just say, I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new MyTouch Slide?!??! I was ridiculously obsessed with it for the first few days, and many apologies to all those I ignored during this time of infatuation. (Continued apologies if it is still ongoing without my complete awareness!)
