We closed on Thursday morning in, like, 20 minutes. It was super fast. We then went straight over to the house and found the A/C all frozen up. Lovely. Nothing like moving out of the rental in 100+ degrees and moving in with no air conditioning! Special thanks to Rich and Josh who helped Michael start moving furniture right away, and especially to Josh who got the "privilege" of moving us out AND in. We'd do it for you! (Or, at least Michael would!)
Unfortunately I had work meetings so I had to go back to my {air-conditioned} office for the day, and when Adam and I got home to "Adam's new house" I was so amazed at how much these three guys accomplished. All the beds were assembled, furniture was in the proper places, and all of the big, heavy pieces and appliances were installed. These guys rock! Since I couldn't do much in the way of moving, I set about making up the beds and unpacking and made good headway in the kitchen and master closet. By 7pm we called it quits, met the next door neighbors, and treated our movers to dinner out {in air-conditioning}.
Friday I took off work, and it was a full day of running errands and unpacking. Unpacking takes time because of the problem-solving. How can I best maximize this space to hold all my crap precious belongings? What once was used in the bathroom is now put to use in the laundry room. What I used to store in the dining room is now housed in the kitchen. (Love having so many cabinets!) Oh, and the A/C and the Internet guys came by (still no satellite until tomorrow). Ahh, the wonders of modern technology!
On Saturday "Uncle" Dave came up and he and Michael finished the last few loads of boxes to get us completely moved out of the storage unit and into the new house. I think what made the unpacking go so quickly was how we handled it in two parts -- the Thursday move and the Saturday move. By Sunday Michael was breaking down the boxes and organizing the garage, and by the looks of it, we didn't just move in. Aside from hanging pictures and setting out knick-knacks, for the most part, we are all settled. In fact, the guest room is the most-ready room in the house, so come test it out! You just have to overlook the dining room -- there are just going to be boxes in there until we get a dining set... eventually.
Adam loved "helping" us move. Yes, we always require our movers to wear pajamas. Shoes are optional.

He has had no trouble making the transition and acclimated right away too his new bed in his new room in his new house. We just have to keep all the doors locked now because he has enjoyed letting himself out of the house and wandering around the yard. He'll have to learn some boundaries since this is his first house without a fenced backyard. Which we love. According to the neighbor, all the kids (mostly around 8-12 years old) just run around all the unfenced backyards and play on each others' playsets.
And I love that another neighbor stopped over on Sunday with a bottle of wine, some cookies, and their phone numbers in case we need anything. Already feel so welcome!
It will be a while before I make decisions on painting and decorating but I hope to show off some pics soon. Stay posted!
WHERE ARE THE PICTURES??? :) Can't wait to try out that guest bedrooms SOON!
