Temporary Lodging

Remember when I said we had to be out of our rental house by July 5th?  Haha, I'm hilarious.

Last week we got word that we had to be out by noon on Sunday, July FIRST. Yep, fewer than 4 days to finish up the packing and move out! Thank goodness for family who love us enough to help us on such short notice!

Michael rented a large storage unit, and we were able to borrow my company's cargo van. He moved most of the packed boxes and lightweight furniture himself before anyone was here to lend a hand.

I took off last Friday from work to finish packing and preparing for a near two-week housing limbo. My brother-in-law Josh and my parents drove up from Lexington to lend some muscle and packing expertise. Late in the afternoon Michael's brother Kevin also showed up with a truck and trailer, and these guys were able to get all the bulky, heavy furniture and appliances moved out. Did I mention it was well over 100-degrees on Friday, too? These guys were awesome.

Saturday morning we still had the beds and couches, and yay for brother-in-law Scott coming to help Michael and my Dad finish moving those pieces out. By 1:00 on Saturday we were clear of furniture with just the odds and ends left over, leaving us nearly 24 hours to get the house cleaned up and vacated. Let the cleaning begin.

We sent Adam to go play with his cousins, and Michael's mom came up to help me clean. She was wonderful, cleaning the kitchen and bathroom while I carpet-cleaned the living room. By Sunday at noon we'd cleaned all we could, and fortunately the owners were thrilled with how good the house looked. {So maybe we overdid it a little. :) } By 1:00 we said goodbye to our home on Flagstone and drove off to... um, nowhere really. We couldn't check into our extended stay hotel room until 3:00 so we were momentarily homeless for real.

In the meantime we decided to head to Michael's Dad's house for a barbecue/pool time with family. We are disappointed that Adam is no longer a fan of the swimming pool. Last year at this time he was jumping in on his own and going under water comfortably. This year he would only get in with me and even then he wasn't at ease. He really lost his acclimation to the water over the winter by not having Gramma and Grampa's pool year-round in Florida. On the flip side, this year he loved being on a horse. We set him up on one with cousin Emma and he was surprisingly happy to be there.

We've been told that we are still right on schedule for the house closing next week. We are constantly checking on the progress and praying that all goes smoothly this time around. Our hotel is less than exciting, so we're always looking for activities to keep us busy, like going to Georgetown for the July 4th holiday and plan to go to Muncie, IN to watch family and friends in a Half Ironman on Saturday. Thanks to everyone who has fed us dinner and entertained us recently as we transition.

We'll keep you posted and hopefully get to move all over again (I know you volunteer movers are thrilled) next week!
