Vacation! Part I

I have this bizarre trait that, for some reason, I hate to miss work. I hate to take off for vacation for longer than a few days. It feels like it's irresponsible or something. For example, last year I had 2 weeks vacation, and I only used 1 week. And that one week wasn't even taken for a vacation or even consecutive days. It was a day here and a day there. What's wrong with me?

Recently some events popped up, and we tried a variety of scenarios to travel to attend them all with the minimal days missed. In the end, we just said "let's go for it" and took a whole week off work to vacation as a family. It was the best decision.

----------

Our vacation started not too far from home with my parents in Georgetown. It was my Pop-Pop's 88th birthday. Pop-Pop is the ideal grandfather, who would visit every Christmas, attend our dance recitals, take us canoeing and share his popcorn. We love our Pop-Pop and his big hearty laugh.

Pop-Pop lives in Arizona, and unfortunately we don't get to see him as often as we'd love to. With my parents' new house and ground-floor guest room, we finally convinced him to come out for a visit. We even invited his son and daughter (my uncle and aunt) to visit, too, and before we knew it, Pop-Pop and his wife were here with all his children, his grandchildren (minus one), and great-grandchildren. What a legacy!

The July & August birthdays in the family.

We had a shirt embroidered for him with all the years of his 4 kids, 5 grandchildren and 6 (including ours due in November) great-grandchildren.
Ice cream and cake and cake!

We loved getting together with all the family that we don't see enough. It turned out to be an unofficial family reunion, and we loved catching up with everyone and showing off Adam (and Jake and Lilly). We took the opportunity to take some big family pictures, too, but unfortunately those are on my sister's camera. When she gets those up I will link to those.

SO HAPPY everyone came together to celebrate Pop-Pop. Can't wait to all get together again!
